The Kojiki: The Beginning of Heaven and Earth

At the beginning of Heaven and Earth, Deities are born in the Plain of High Heaven. The text names, in order, the Deity Master-of-the-August-Centre-of-Heaven, next the High-August-Producing-Wondrous Deity, next the Divine-Producing-Wondrous-Deity. These three Deities are all born alone and hide their persons. The text then names the Deities born next from a thing that sprouts up like a reed-shoot, when the earth, young and like floating oil, drifts about medusa-like: the Pleasant-Reed-Shoot-Prince-Elder Deity, next the Heavenly-Eternally-Standing-Deity. These two Deities are likewise born alone and hide their persons. The text states that the five Deities listed above are separate Heavenly Deities.
